Dark Gum Tissue to Pink Gums via Laser Technology
Altering Melanin PigmentationUnusual ginigival pigmentation characteristics have historically occured more frequently in some cultures, as compared to others. With the effects of globalization and cross-cultural population growth, these culture-specific pigmentation issues are becoming more and more commonplace. The chief complaint centers on having brown or dark brown splotchy gum tissue. For some the effects are more pronounced, resulting in a solid shade of brown throughout all tissues. The common goal for patients with excess melanin deposits is simply the desire to have healthy pink gum and gingival tissues (see photos below). The Causes of Dark Gum TissueIn general terms, melanin, carotene and hemoglobin are the common pigments that contribute to the normal color of gum tissue. Certain imbalances of these pigmentation components cause the distortions in cosmetic appearance. In some cases the condition is known as black gums.
Dr. Bram has followed the national and international research closely during the past several years. Several clinical studies were performed comparing the application of different treatment methods (both surgical and non-surgical) and technologies. The Erbium:YAG Laser was consistently found to provide the most efficient and safe treatment for altering melanin pigmentation in the gingival tissues, thereby producing aesthetically correct pink gums.
Dr. Bram is one of the few Cosmetic Dentists both locally and nationally that provides this effective, non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that can create healthy uniformly pink gum tissue.Healthy Pink Gum Tissue - A Realistic GoalPractically any degree of pigmentation problems can be overcome with today's advanced Erbium Lasers.
